Ladies and gentlemen

Good evening! It is my great honor to come and share with you my experience during my candidature as well as in my work. Today I will talk about growing in communities of practice.

Being research students, most of us, I believe, have dual purposes - to grow academically and to grow personally. Academic growth is realized in the development of research expertise , or in more tangible outcomes, such as publications and completion of the thesis on time or even ahead of time. Personal growth lies in the shaping of our character and the building of our world outlook. Fortunately, we are not alone in such endeavor. We meet groups of people who share the interest, purposes, and / or profession yet with a variety of experiences. We can share information and experiences, learn from each other and have an opportunity to develop. This is engagement in communities of practice (Lave & Wenger, 1991).
